Re: Site Recovery Manager

See answers in line:

If I will be using Site Recovery Manager, Do I need to configure distributed switch on the DR site if the VMs from the production site are already using distributed switch. - No, SRM can work with different types of switches at both sites.

If the vCenter Server and the server itself is using its own domain (not joined in the AD/vsphere.local), can I still install SRM and configure it or vCenter Server and its server should be joined to AD? - Yes, SRM doesn't have to be joined to the same AD domain (or a domain) at both sites. I would recommend if using vC 6 to connect both PSCs to the same SSO domain. Keep in mind this is completely separate from AD domains.

Re: How to remove VM disk (using partitions)

Thanks for the info, I ended up doing exactly this - deleted the earliest snapshot referring to the disk and was able to start the VM from W10.

Is there no way to edit these resources on the snapshot without deleting it?

One use case is this starting up on another OS - the partition table order has changed - is there no way to simply patch the affected snapshot with the new details?

Cheers,

[Bug]Get-VMHost - vCenter Appliance 6.0.0 Powercli 6.3 R1?

hi

i am not sure if anyone else has faced this issue but this is affecting many of our scripts.

vCenter Appliance 6. Build 3339084 and vCenter Appliance 6. Build 3634794

Environment: Win-Server 2012 /Framework 4.5 / WMF3.0

Powercli version 6.3 / R1 / R1 - patch 1 [Checked on all these]

$esx=Get-View -ViewType Hostsystem -Filter @{"Name"="<HostName>"}

$esx.Network Is empty

\

so i checked at extension data andfound that is also empty.

$Esx=Get-VMHost <Hostname>

$Esx.Extensiondata.Network is empty

I do have few environment where we still have powercli 5.8 and there we get list of network from that esx host,

Is this something which gor missed as excessive focus on get-vmhost optimization?

Regards

Sanshis.

Hi ,

you can delete the vmk0 from command and create new one and assign IP .

  1. List vmkernel interfaces: # esxcli network ip interface list
  2. Remove vmkernel interface(s): # esxcli network ip interface remove –i vmkX (where X is the vmk# you want to remove)
  3. List portgroups: # esxcli network vswitch standard portgroup list
  4. Remove Management Network portgroup: # esxcli network vswitch standard portgroup remove –p ‘Management Network’ –v vSwitchX (where X is the vSwitch number)
  5. Remove vmnics: # esxcli network vswitch standard uplink remove –u vmnicX –v vSwitchX (where X is the uplink number and vSwitch number)
  6. Add new Management Network portgroup: # esxcli network vswitch standard portgroup add –p ‘Management Network’ –v vSwitchX
  7. Add new vmkernel interface: # esxcli network ip interface add –i vmk0 –p ‘Management Network’ –m 1500
  8. Configure the new vmkernel interface: # esxcli network ip interface ipv4 set –i vmk0 –I <IP_address> -N <Network_Mask> -t static
  9. Add vmnics: # esxcli network vswitch standard uplink add –u vmic0 –v vSwitch0

Note-  -i , -p gives error you may have to type -p=‘Management Network’  .

If this server is running HP blade chassis , then MAC can be an issue .

Solution

Unassign profile from blade  (Don't delete the profile )

Create new profile and assign the Blade

power on server and check .

later you can rename and delete old profile.

Communication - VM with Multiple adaptors

Hi,

I am facing issue with a VM where i have used 2 NIC cards. First one 10.0.0.0 segment (VLAN tagged inside port group) is for general purpose and another one is for back to back connectivity 192.168.0.0 (VLAN as none) with another virtual machine. For adaptor 1, have used default gateway and its routed in L3 Switch. The Second adaptor is configured without gateway and its not routed in Switch.

Similarly i have another VM in another ESXi host. Both ESXi hosts are in same cluster.

Now the problem is, some times the connectivity through Secondary adaptor is working fine. Sometimes its not. While checking the trace, its taking the Primary adaptor when we have issue. to fix this i need to add the static route to route the traffic via Secondary adaptor. Is this a normal behaviour. Is there any solution to fix this issue. so that i can go without static route inside the Server.

Thanks, I've read the blog post but I really do not find an  answer to my question. In My situation, the hosts1 and 2 are not isolated so, they Will not contact the isolation address and they leave the vm powered on. What about the host3 and 4 ? They starts a Second copy of the vm?

Re: vDS now comes bundled with NSX for vSphere

Dear team,

Finally we have found that this is a bug of NSX.

In VMware NSX for vSphere 6.2.1, adding an ESXi host to the vSphere Distributed Switch fails with the error: Host <IP address> is not licensed for the VDS feature. Cannot add this host to dvSwitch (2143397)

https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2143397

Thank you

Danne

FWIW:

My workaround:

run the update again, but select the 2nd option when installing: "Do not close applications. A reboot will be required".

With me everything went fine then.

VIew Composer certificate problem

Hello,

I am new to Horizon Suite, I am testing Horizon 7 in my lab and I have an issue with the Composer server certificate, and I get the following error when I try to edit a desktop pool:

"The certificate configured on View Composer Server is invalid, blocking communication with this server. To resume communication, replace the certificate with a valid certificate signed by a CA. Alternatively, accept the certificate thumbprint by clicking Verify in the View Administrator dashboard."

I don't know where to "verify" the cert on the dashboard, nothing to click

Thanks,

Hello,

Thanks for the reply.  Three of the VMs are running Windows server (2012, 2008) and one is Linux centos.  Your email helped me understand the things I need to look for.  Let me give it a try and get back to you.

Thanks again.
